Silenced Diesel Generators for Sale, Sized to the Load That Matters
When the power drops, the generator is the difference between business as usual and a very bad day. Feedlots, cotton gins, irrigation, processing: get the sizing right and it just works.
Donaldson Electric Works supplies Himoinsa silenced diesel generators from 8 kVA to 1,200 kVA, single and three phase, with selected sizes stocked in Toowoomba and available across the full range on order. We size the unit to your actual load and pair it with the right changeover so a power failure never means downtime. Tell us what you need to keep running.
The range
Himoinsa silenced diesel generators, 8 to 1,200 kVA
8 to 1,200 kVA
Stocked in Toowoomba
Continuous-rated kVA
Single & three phase
Yanmar, IVECO and Scania diesel
~35 dB(A) silenced
Himoinsa is a Yanmar company and one of the world’s major generator manufacturers. The range runs on Yanmar, IVECO and Scania diesel engines depending on size, housed in a sound-attenuated steel enclosure that cuts roughly 35 dB(A), so the set can run near stock, sheds, staff or neighbours without the racket of an open genset. Every unit is diesel, water-cooled, with electronic voltage regulation for clean, stable three-phase or single-phase power.
We stock selected sizes in Toowoomba and supply generators up to 1,200 kVA on order (ex Brisbane or Sydney), specified to your load. The range is grouped below by the job it does. Every model comes with a spec sheet, so you can self-identify, then call to confirm stock and price. A note on the numbers: the kVA figures listed are continuous (prime) power, rated for 24/7 running. Standby output is around 10% higher, so if you are sizing for occasional backup rather than constant load, there is a little more headroom than the continuous figure suggests.
Single-Phase Backup — 9 to 30kVA · 240V
For sheds, workshops, single-phase pumps and property backup
The Himoinsa HYW M5 single-phase range, for properties and operations on standard single-phase supply. Silenced, diesel, and built to run long hours without fuss.
Three-Phase, Small to Mid — 8 to 160kVA · 415V
For irrigation, pump sets, workshops and three-phase site power. Selected sizes are stocked in Toowoomba.
The HYW T5 three-phase range, across this band, is the workhorse for irrigation, pumps and general three-phase supply. This is where most of our stocked generators sit, so if you need three-phase power quickly, start here.
Large Three-Phase & Prime Power — 200 to 600 kVA · 415V
For feedlots, cotton gins, processing plants, and prime or standby power for a whole operation
The larger generator range runs on Yanmar, IVECO and Scania diesel engines depending on size, for continuous, heavy-load running. These are the units that carry a feedlot through a grid outage or run a site off-grid for weeks. Supplied to order and specified to your load, whether that is standby for emergencies or prime power as the main source.
Outputs are continuous (prime) power. Standby is roughly 10% higher. Larger units available on request: we supply generators up to 1,200 kVA, or can specify multiple sets in parallel.
Not sure which size you need? Tell us the load and we’ll spec it.
What Size Do I Need?
A rough guide to generator sizing
The most expensive generator is the one that is too small for the job. Undersize it and it runs flat out, overheats, and suffers premature failure. The right size is not just the kVA on the nameplate, it is your total running load plus the starting surge of any electric motors, which can pull six to eight times their running current at start-up without motor automation and control. This is a rough starting point — the real number comes from a two-minute conversation about what you are actually running.
| Rough size | Typically suits |
|---|---|
| 8 to 20kVA | Sheds, workshops, single pumps, three-phase tools, property backup |
| 20 to 45kVA | Irrigation pumps, dairies, small processing plants, multiple motors on a site |
| 50 to 150kVA | Feedlots, cotton gins, irrigation, workshops with heavy plant |
| 150 to 1,200 kVA | Prime power for whole operations, feedlots, transport depots, processing plants, large commercial businesses, off-grid sites |
Automatic changeover
Power failure without the downtime
For standby installations we pair the generator with an automatic transfer switch, so when the grid drops the generator starts and takes the load on its own, then hands back when mains returns. No one has to be on site, no one has to throw a switch.
For a feedlot with stock to water or a cold store that cannot warm up, that automatic changeover is the whole point. It is also the sort of thing you set up properly once, with someone who knows how, rather than buying a bare genset online and working it out yourself. Our soft starters and drives tie into the same thinking; see Motor Automation & Control.

Generator Hire
Temporary power when you need it
Alongside sales, we can supply hire generators on request, up to 1,200kVA through our supplier network. It is an add-on for the situations that call for it: emergency cover when a unit is down, or temporary power on a new build or construction site before the permanent supply is in.
We do not hold hire units in stock, but we can arrange and facilitate the hire when you need it. Just ask.
In the Field
Where our generators are working
These are real installations across Queensland and northern New South Wales. Different sizes, different jobs, same brief: keep the power on where an outage costs real money.
Also available
Himoinsa lighting towers
For harvest, night works, feedlots, construction sites and events, we also supply Himoinsa LED lighting towers: the compact trailer-mounted Apolo and the H-Box+ box unit, each running four 350W LED heads off an efficient Yanmar set. Same brand, same reliability, built to light a work area through the night.

Why Buy From Us
The generator is the easy part
Anyone can ship you a genset. What they cannot do is size it to your actual load, set up the changeover, and answer the phone when it matters. We supply the equipment, spec it to the job, and back it with our own service department in Toowoomba. When it counts, you are dealing with a local team that knows your gear, not a support ticket interstate.

Sized to your load, not a catalogue
We spec the unit around what you actually run, including motor starting loads, so it fits the first time and does not run itself into the ground.
Stocked and ready in Toowoomba
The sizes the region buys most are on the shelf. When you need three-phase power quickly, the odds are it is already here.
After-hours emergency supply
Power does not fail at convenient times. After-hours emergency supply is available on 0455 786 760, because a feedlot with stock to water cannot wait until Monday.
Backed by our own workshop
We supply it and we service it, from our own workshop with our own technicians. The relationship does not end when the generator leaves the yard.
Common questions
Generator questions, answered straight
It comes down to your total running load plus the starting surge of any motors, and whether the generator is backup or prime power. Electric motors draw several times their running current at start-up, so a generator sized only to the running total will struggle. Tell us what you need to run, or the equipment list, and we’ll size it properly rather than leaving you to guess. The sizing guide above is a rough starting point.
Standby means the generator sits ready and takes over when the grid fails, running occasionally. Prime power means the generator is the main source, running continuously where there is no mains or it is unreliable. They are sized and built differently, a prime-power unit is made to run hard for long hours, so it matters which you actually need. One thing worth knowing when you compare figures: the kVA ratings we list are continuous (prime) power, rated for constant running. Standby output is around 10% higher, so a unit has a little more capacity for occasional-use backup than its continuous figure suggests. We’ll match the unit to the duty.
Yes. Most of our stocked range is three-phase (415V) diesel, from 8kVA up, which is what irrigation, pumps, processing and most industrial sites run on. We also carry single-phase (240V) units for smaller and property-backup jobs. Tell us your supply and load and we’ll point you to the right one.
A silenced (or soundproof) generator is housed in a sound-attenuated steel enclosure that cuts noise by around 35 dB(A) versus an open set. That lets it run near stock, staff, sheds or neighbours without the noise being a problem. For most site, feedlot and standby installations, silenced is the standard choice.
Yes, but the generator has to be sized for the motor’s starting current, not just its running load, because a motor can draw six to eight times its running current at start-up without motor automation and control. Getting this wrong is the most common sizing mistake. We factor motor starting loads into every sizing, which is exactly the sort of thing an online seller shipping a box cannot do for you.
Yes. For standby installations we pair the generator with an automatic transfer switch so it starts and takes the load on its own when the grid drops, then hands back when mains returns, with no one needing to be on site. For anything you cannot afford to have go dark, it is worth doing.
We supply across Toowoomba, the Darling Downs and out into regional Queensland, and back what we sell with our own service department and an after-hours line for emergencies. A regional supplier who can actually get to you beats a box shipped from interstate when something needs attention.
It depends on size, phase, and whether you need standby or prime-power configuration and automatic changeover, so anything from a few thousand for a small single-phase unit up into the tens of thousands for a large three-phase set. Tell us the size and application and we’ll give you a real figure. We size it right first, so you are not paying for capacity you do not need.
Portable or Fixed?
Make sure you’re on the right page
This page covers the silenced diesel range for fixed installations and serious three-phase power: feedlots, irrigation, standby and prime power. If instead you need something you can throw on the ute, move between job sites, or run a smaller single-phase job, that is our portable range, Powerlite and TecnoGen, and it lives on its own page.
Quick rule of thumb: if it stays put and powers your operation, you are in the right place. If it travels with you, head to Portable Generators.
